Baltimore Rideshare Accident Attorney

Ridesharing companies such as Uber and Lyft are practically increasing in popularity by the day. But what happens when you get injured in a rideshare crash, or as a pedestrian or other driver you get hit by an Uber or Lyft driver? Our Baltimore rideshare accident attorneys at Berman | Sobin | Gross LLP hold negligent drivers accountable, and can help you file a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver or the rideshare company.

The State of Rideshare Companies and Their Influence on Traffic Safety

Uber, Lyft, ZipCar, and other rideshare companies have taken Baltimore, and the U.S. as a whole, by storm in the past decade. While rideshare apps make it easier, in some cases, to get from A to B quickly and efficiently, there are a number of downsides. For one, ride sharing cars have increased traffic in every major city. A recent study found that in Boston, Uber and Lyft vehicles made up 7.7 percent of the total traffic—traffic that would not otherwise be on the road, as rideshare vehicles spend the majority of their time cruising around without any passengers. With increased traffic comes more dangerous roads. Many experts also believe that ridesharing will also have a negative impact on public transportation, according to Business Insider, and it is negatively impacting people of color and people in lower income brackets.

We Represent Any of the Following Victims in Rideshare Collisions

Any number of the following parties can end up being the victim in a rideshare crash, and we represent whoever that may be:

  • Driver of the Uber/Lyft vehicle;
  • Passenger of the Uber/Lyft vehicle;
  • Occupant of another vehicle; and
  • Non occupants, such as bicyclists or pedestrians struck by the Uber/Lyft vehicle.

Uber and Lyft Insurance Policies

Uber and Lyft both have large insurance policies for victims, totalling up to $1 million in damages. However, this $1 million policy is only available to victims while the Uber/Lyft driver has a passenger in the vehicle, or is on their way (en route) to pick up a passenger. If the rideshare app is on but there is no passenger in the car and the driver is not currently en route to pick up a passenger, the rideshare insurance policy for both companies is reduced to $50,000 per person for bodily injury, $100,000 in total bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 in property damage. However, if the app is off Uber and Lyft are not liable, and the victim must pursue compensation from the at-fault driver’s personal auto insurance policy.
