Baltimore Broadside/T-Bone Accident Attorney

Broadside collisions, commonly referred to as T-bone crashes, usually happen at intersections during a right of way violation. The injuries for either party can be extreme, and proving fault can be difficult depending on the circumstances of the crash. If you were involved in a T-bone collision and suffered injuries, you should not have to pay for your own medical expenses or property damage, or suffer the financial consequences of missing weeks of work. By working with an experienced Baltimore broadside/T-bone accident attorney, you can hold the at-fault party responsible for your damages. At Berman | Sobin | Gross LLP, we take on all types of traffic collisions, including broadside crashes, and we are confident that we can deliver you the results you want.

How Broadside/T-Bone Crashes Occur

A T-bone crash can be caused by the negligence of the driver who gets T-boned, or the driver who does the “T-boning.” Negligence can also lie with both parties as well. Broadside/T-bone crashes are often the result of distracted driving, speeding, aggressive driving, or drunk driving that ends in:

  • Running a red light or stop sign;
  • Failure to yield while pulling out from a side street, or excessive speed, that is difficult to judge, of the vehicle on the main road;
  • Making an illegal left turn across traffic at an intersection; and
  • Backing up from a parking space or side street into the main road.

Common Injuries in Baltimore Broadside/T-Bone Crashes

T-bone crashes have a high rate of injury for both the vehicle being T-boned, as well as the vehicle doing the T-bone impact. The severity of injuries is based on the speed of each vehicle, the age and safety features of each vehicle (older models may not have side-curtain airbags), and of course the size of each vehicle—a recent study found that car occupants had a lower survival rate in T-bone collisions than SUV drivers, and suggested that efforts need to be made to increase side impact safety features among cars, as well as reduce “SUV aggressivity.”

Over a quarter of all fatal traffic collisions are caused in broadside crashes, and occupants of the vehicle that gets broadsided tend to have the worst injuries—those on the nearside have the greatest risk of fatality, according to the NHTSA. Injuries for these parties are often to both sides of their bodies, while occupants of the vehicle that T-bones the other vehicle tend to have Injuries to the front side of their bodies. Injuries that occupants of either party may include the following:

  • Traumatic brain injury;
  • Fractured limbs;
  • Fractured ribs;
  • Whiplash;
  • Spinal cord or spinal column injuries;
  • Lacerations;
  • Contusions; and
  • More.
